Our learning

Extra-curricular activities

As well as being fun, extra-curricular activities help students to learn about themselves and develop and use their skills and knowledge in different contexts and communities.

By taking part students build confidence, long-lasting friendships and connections and gain transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, organisation, problem solving and time management.

As students begin to gain mastery in an activity their confidence grows alongside their skills.

Extra curricular activities also provide an opportunity for students to assess and manage risks in a safe environment, encouraging them to be courageous when tackling challenges and enabling them to practice responsible risk taking that can be a key entrepreneurial skill.

Volunteering

Volunteering presents an excellent opportunity to forge connections with like-minded individuals. Volunteering open doors to a diverse array of people from various backgrounds and experiences who all share a common purpose. This exposure enables volunteers to learn from the insights and perspectives of others, enriching their own understanding. Additionally, volunteering can strengthen existing relationships by providing a shared activity for students, their family, and friends.

Engaging in volunteer work showcases the positive impact that students and families have on their local community. This fosters a sense of connection and belonging to the people around them. Recognizing the tangible effects of their contribution may even inspire them to become more involved in other aspects of their community, such as local politics or community programs. By actively improving their community, students and families simultaneously enhance their own experience within it.

Participating in volunteer opportunities can lead to a sense of fulfilment. Many individuals use charity work and volunteering as a means to nurture new relationships and cultivate interests outside their school lives. Volunteering allows individuals to devote time to their hobbies while making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
